Children's Charter

Childrens Charter

St Mary’s is proud to be a member of the
Diocese of London Children’s Charter Scheme

The Children’s Charter is a scheme set up to help parishes develop the welcome they offer to children. As a charter church we are part of a network of London parishes from many different places and traditions who are trying to do the same.

Joining the scheme expresses the value we place on children and young people in every part of church life and our commitment to think deeply about our mission to them.

The charter encourages churches to think about heir work in four key areas and to commit to continually developing ministry to and with children.

Worship

Children are welcomed into the heart of the parishes worship. They are neither entertained nor distracted but are encouraged to take a full part, in the same way as any adult member.

Welcome

Children are welcomed into the heart of church life.

Mission

The mandate of each parish stretches beyond those who attend on a Sunday.

Nurture

Children are made in the image of God and need a good balance of teaching and time to reflect and grow.
