Funerals in the Church of England
Funerals are an important way of marking the close of a human life on earth. Family and friends come together to express their grief, to give thanks for the life lived, and to commend the person into God’s keeping. The deceased does not have to have been a regular churchgoer to have a Church of England funeral, and whether you are thinking about a service at a cemetery, crematorium or in Church the local parish priest can help. Do tell your funeral director if this is what you would want.
Each year in early November we have a special evening service at St Mary's to remember loved ones who have died. There is an opportunity to light a candle and people often find it helpful to attend, even a number years after someone has died.
