Getting Married
Welcome!
Congratulations on your forthcoming marriage. We are delighted that you are interested in having the ceremony at St Mary’s. The first step is to find out whether you are legally entitled to get married here. You can do this for yourself by checking the details below:
|
You are legally entitled to get married in a parish in which one of you lives. To check whether St Mary’s is your Parish Church please enter your home postcode into the Parish Finder at http://www.achurchnearyou.com/ The parish church will be shown with a red border at the top of the list of nearby churches. If you are in this parish it will say St Mary’s Spring Grove. If you do not have internet access please contact our parish office with your full postal address and we will be able to check this for you. If neither of you currently lives in this Parish you are also legally able to get married in any parish church by a “qualifying connection” if you can show that one of the following apply:
If either of you have been married before this must be mentioned at the initial enquiry. There are some additional details that we would need to ascertain whether marriage in church is possible – this would be discussed at the initial meeting with the vicar. If either or both of you are not UK residents this must be mentioned at the initial enquiry, as we would need to process your enquiry differently. This will involve a meeting with a local ‘surrogate’ to go through all your paperwork. The vicar will talk this through with you at the initial meeting. |
- Full names and address or addresses (including postcode).
- Brief detail of your qualifying connection if you are not a parish resident.
- Contact telephone number (and e-mail if possible).
- Whether either of you has been married before.
- Whether you are both UK citizens (if not, give details of your citizenship).
If you are not eligible to be married in this church at the moment you will probably want to approach your own parish church or one with which you have one of the qualifying connections listed on the previous page. If however you are still keen to link with us here at St Mary’s we’d be delighted to welcome you at one of our 10am Sunday services, so that you can decide whether you would like to begin to attend regularly (you’d need to be able to attend approximately fortnightly for at least six months before the banns are read in order to meet the legal criteria). Do introduce yourself to the vicar when you come along, or let us know if you have further queries.
